Reply with quote | #1 | Hey everyone I am new to the board and currently reside in Houston, Tx. I will be making a trip up to Ohio in August to visit family and was wondering outside of the wonderful courses that have been reviewed on the show, if there were any courses that you would recommend as a must play. I am not really worried about difficulty as my game is more geared for relaxation then improvement. Any advice or tips is much appreciated. |

Reply with quote | #2 | Well if you are by the cleveland metroparks golf courses you should play there. They have both 9 and 18 hole golf courses, or in the case of shawnee hills, they have an 18 hole course and a par 3 nine hole course. Some even have driving ranges! They are a good price and also have a program that when you spend $100 on greens fees you get $20 back to spend on greens fees. Also some not many courses require tee times, but check just to make sure.

I agree with Walter. The metroparks courses are in great shape. The problem might be that Big Met is always busy and play is slow. Try Shawnee Hills or Sleepy Hollow if you are in the Cleveland area. I found a hidden gem in Hubbard, Ohio called Pine Lakes. Turkeyfoot in Akron is a great course too. If you want to play one from the shows, play Shale Creek. |

Hey jaysqr, If you are around the Cleveland area you will be suprised how many courses are with in a half hours drive. But I have to disagree with the other two posters. Every time I have played @ a metro course it was nothing but hurry up and wait and that just is not enjoyable golf, I am not saying that they are not great courses, just that the crowdedness takes all the pleasure out of the game.
Check out this site http://www.golfinohio.com/?view=faq
pick a course out in the country enjoy the drive and best of all the course owners actually appreciate you coming out to play, imagine that thanking you for coming out.
leave me a message if you are coming to southeast of Cleveland and I will help you pick a course. Hell, I will even go golfing with you if you need a partner. It does not take much to get me golfing!

Reply with quote | #5 | I agree with all those who have said the metro courses are in great shape.... but, yes, it is hurry up and wait. It messes up the mo. Not that I am a great golfer. Yes, try some of the courses out in the country like Deer ridge down towards Bellvile off Rt 71, Hawks Nest, or Apple Valley in Mt Vernon. Little Mountain off Rts 90 and 44 is an excellent course. Pleasant Hills is a 36 hole course which is inexpensive and a good and fun course to play....... Oh wicked Woods, also.... So many excellent courses to choose from....... Yea give me a holler and I will even play some of these courses with you. Hey Dave, always looking to go out. Jim |

Reply with quote | #6 | I would highly recommend the metroparks just like everyone. Sleepy Hollow, Manakiki and Big Met are really great well maintained and fun courses to play. Shawnee is nice as well, but its definitely not as nice as the others.
My favorite would have to be sleepy hollow. But you have to get there before the 3pm or you wont be able to tee off until after 5. Sleepy Hollow is a good challenging course with greens that can be a challenge. Its always maintained very well by the staff and play is usually pretty smooth.
But where ever you play hope you hit them well. |

There are many nice courses in north eastern ohio to name a few Powder horn, Thunder Hills, Harbour Creek, Pleasant Hills, Rolling Green is an alright course. I work at a course called Grandview now this isn't a top of the notch course however they do have some of the trickiest greens out there and for $25 all day play with a cart you really can't go wrong... Now Wicked Woods in my eyes is an ok course however I think it's more for the weekend hack it is tricky however if you play smart then you will find the least trouble. Sleepy Hollow and Manakiki have got to be the best public course I have played on. |
